Love, Patience, and....Golf?
The past few weeks have been pretty interesting. Logan decided he wants to be a golfer, so we’ve been spending our early spring out at the driving range. Honestly, he’s pretty good for someone who’s never even held a club before.
Golf has never really been my thing. I enjoy most of it—the clothes, being outside, the golf cart, the beautiful country clubs, the driving range, the putting green. But I don’t enjoy actually playing golf… you know, the part where you have to hit the ball straight, then go find wherever on earth it ended up, and try again and again while the group behind you wonders why you’re so bad and so slow.
But like a good dad, I want to support what my son is interested in. So naturally, I decided to take him to The Masters since it lined up with his spring break.
HA.
Little did I know, getting into The Masters is about as hard as getting into Heaven. Hear me out—this analogy is actually pretty interesting:
- You have to know a guy — kind of like knowing Jesus
- There aren’t tickets, there are badges… and if you sell your badge for money, you can get banned for life — that sounds familiar
- It’s a beautiful, immaculate garden — very Eden-like
- It’s called The Masters — and well… I know who the Master is
So naturally, I prayed for Masters tickets.
Didn’t get any. Oh well.
So I pivoted and grabbed $25 practice round tickets to the RBC Heritage on Hilton Head. Logan and I had an absolute blast.
I wasn’t really expecting God to show up… but of course, He did.
The event opened with a prayer—one that focused on two things that are pretty important in golf: love and patience. Without those, you’re not going to be a great golfer. You have to love the people and the game.
As I opened my eyes after the prayer, I immediately noticed the shirt of the guy standing in front of me. It was covered in a web of words—and right in the center was one word:
Love.
Jesus's greatest commandment. Each word connected to the word Love forming.. a web. It struck me.

If you were to create your own Love web.... what would it look like?
As for me, I may just have to add Golf... with my kid.... to the list.
